First Post

I have been encouraged for years to launch a blog. Not that I expect to get a lot of readers, maybe none, well that's probably wrong. My Mom will read it.... but I doubt she'll get much out of it. It's not my intention to make this a "personal blog." That is; I won't be posting pictures of my friends and family (maybe just a few) and I won't be writing about "personal" issues.

No, I intend to make this about technology. Perhaps not the most original concept on the web, but it's something that I am truly passionate about and interested in. So that's the idea. From time to time I'll be linking back and forth to my twitter, Facebook and Linkedin accounts, maybe someone more than just my Mom will find this after all.

Oh, and why did I call the blog "Gorn Cannon?" It was kind of random, the concept of the Gorn Cannon come from Star Trek (link), in short the Gorn Cannon is the finest example of how awesome Capt Kirk really was. He built a cannon out of bamboo, random minerals (to make gun powder) and raw diamonds (which were just lying around), to shoot an alien antagonist; the Gorn. As it happens, there was a twitter trend a few months ago wherein fans of Star Trek convinced Grant Imahara of the Mythbusters to test the feasibility of building and firing a Gorn Cannon in the fashion of Capt Kirk. I love this because the Gorn Cannon is the greatest 'hack' ever accomplished (in fiction) and the hacking of technologhy interests me greatly. I'll probably post later about what the word "hack" means to me (it does not mean "to guess Sarah Palin's Yahoo password" btw).

OK that's it, see you later blog.
